Bordeaux Old Town Food and Wine Tour

Description
We don't believe in "cookie-cutter" experiences and neither should you! We provide the most personalized tours possible, meaning every tour we give is never the same. With the exception of a few must-try foods, the rest is built around YOU and what you're curious about tasting. Groups are kept small and led by an incredibly knowledgeable guide. Did you know baguettes are some of the worst bread in France and you should be asking for something else? Did you know there are seasons for cheese? Would you like to have someone explain the regions of French wine? Our guides can do this because they are former chefs, food writers, and wine experts - not a student who has memorized a script. You'll be strolling through Old Bordeaux, with its magnificent medieval architecture and cobblestone streets, sampling the best Bordeaux has to offer. We have selected only the highest quality shops to showcase and portion sizes are generous.

Itinerary
The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and is divided into two parts. The first half has you visiting the best artisanal shops in the city - specifically an artisanal bakery, fromagerie, butcher and cannele pastry shop. You will sample a few items along the way but the main event happens during the second half of the tour. You will enjoy a seated wine, cheese and charcuterie pairing for a grand finale at a wine cellar/wine shop. As we are walking, we'll point out a few historical landmarks in Old Town Bordeaux from the Camino de Santiago to the Grosse Cloche - one of the most recognized monuments of Bordeaux.
Our standard tour starts at the Cinema Utopia and is about 1 km broken up over a leisurely hour and half, before the seated wine pairing. There are spots to sit and rest along the way and the distance can even be further reduced if there is someone on the tour who is elderly or mobility impaired.
We are able to accommodate gluten-free clients by making a special bonus stop to a gluten-free bakery. If you are celiac, please let us know in advance as we have a special protocol.

A food tour with Aurélien is probably the best way to explore the old town of Bordeaux if you enjoy to discover small artisanal businesses, local delicacies and - of course - carefully chosen wines from the Bordeaux region. Aurélien strew in loads of (fun)facts about the city, so the tour is not only a pleasure for your taste buds but we also learnt a lot about the city's history, how to properly experience wines, and pairing flavours. Tip: Book the tour at the beginning of your Bordeaux holiday, as you'll want to revisit all the places Aurélien takes you to - so make sure you have enough time for that!
My wife and I signed up for this tour during a week long stay in Bordeaux. Our guide was Alex, who quickly made a small group of strangers feel comfortable and at ease. The tour involved Alex bringing us to local shops where she picked up baguettes, cheese & meat that we would sample during our wine tasting. As we moved about en route to our wine tasting, Alex shared some local history. We finished up in a wine shop, enjoyed the food gathered en route, washed down with our wine tasting while we chatted. As we ate and drank Alex provided more information on the food and a wine guru gave us insights into the wines we were tasting. Alex was an excellent guide and we had a great time. For me this is must do if you ever visit Bordeaux.
Alex was an excellent guide, friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. He made us feel welcome and at ease. Loved the local feast at the end too.
This was such a wonderful experience! The food, the sites, the people and the guide! Highly recommend this trip when in Bordeaux!!!
Fun tour. Alex is a knowledgeable guide. Excellent company all around. Learned a lot about wine and cheese pairings.
This tour is a must when visiting Bordeaux; the food was delicious, we tried a lot of different food. Alex, our guide, was great and he provided a lot of information. I am a vegetarian and Alex did a great job accommodating that. Our group stayed after the tour and we had a great chat.
This was a great trip and our guide, Alex, was excellent. We learned a lot and really enjoyed the cheeses and wines. Thank you!!
Alex was our tour guide and the tour was fantastic! He is very knowledgeable about food, wine, cheese, history and architecture in Bordeaux. I was surprised by how much there is to know about cheese. The food samples were abundant, the walking was easy with lots of breaks.
Alexandra was a wonderful tour guide! The day was full of great food, wine, and conversation, with the cheese and chocolate selections catered to each of our preferences. She was very knowledgeable about the history of Bordeaux and gave us some great recommendations for the rest of our time in Bordeaux.
Hello Matthew, thank you very much for your enthusiastic review! I'm delighted you enjoyed your tour and time with Alexandra L., especially the cheese and chocolate stops (which we visit on our Monday early afternoon tour.) Hi Norm and thank you so much! I love the photo of you and Myra : ) Thank you for saying you would highly recommend us, especially when one person in your group had a gluten intolerance. I'm glad she enjoyed the special stop at the gluten free bakery. Many thanks again for leaving a review and helping out a small business!
