Bintan Fireflies Discovery Tour

The experience was really amazing! Driver was on time and since we went on an off peak season, we had the entire boat to ourselves ! The stars were so beautiful that night, and the guide shook the tree a little so that we could catch the fireflies. The boat cutting the Sebong river was so smooth and it was windy like air con temperature. We really enjoyed the serenity and calmness of the night.

Be mindful, fireflies are delicate, stress, being handles and shaken around can harm them. If they fall to water they can't swim unless they can crawl. In this tour many dies from guides shaking the mangroves and trying to capture them for the tourists. In few years they will all die and they can forget their tours and earnings. Seriously sad.

We had a fun and unique experience. We were picked up from our hotel at 4 Points Sheraton Bintan by Mr Darul who drove safely in a comfortable car. Upon arriving, we put on lifejackets as a safety measure and went down a few steps down the jetty and was helped onto the motor boat. It was only us with the guide Taufik and the captain as it was a random Tuesday. We saw and touched fireflies (we let them go obviously). The boat trip at night down the mangrove was an experience in itself, with the cool breeze and the stars in the sky. My teenage kids (tough crowd) and I wished it could go on longer. Thanks to Taufik for such clear and detailed explanation and thr boat captain for such steady and skilful boat skills! Taufik also helped to take pictures of us. Overall a great experience!

The tour was nice and we had nice boat ride and saw so many fireflies.. We also saw so many stars. The driver was friendly and we really enjoyed the trip.

Definitely an adventure...! From getting in a tiny boat heading in the pitch dark to see the fireflies at night. I'm glad I did this excursion.

When did I last see Fireflies (jugnus) - must have been in my younger days until last week when we did experience one at Bintan. we got late for Mangrove trip hence changed that to Fireflies tour. it was worth the delay. totally dark was the area and once you approach fireflies sitting on the natural plants, they move and one can see their dance. Worth the scare as well. Enjoyed the hour long tour. Must visit place at Bintan.

the firefly tour was ok, not particularly spectacular but friendly and low stress. do not use insect repellant you won't need it and I doubt the flies like it !

Very basic tour but straightforward - drive to dock, jump on noise motor boat, drive around the mangrove looking for fireflies for a while, return. Don't expect too much but good for a quick getaway from a bog-standard Bintan Resort.

Magical experience, to see the fire flies lighting up the trees Iike a Christmas tree, and catching them with the cup of your hand and watching them fly off again. The boat ride in the dark was also quite fun and the stars were also amazing! Guide was very friendly and provided helpful info about the mangrove and fireflies. To be honest it wasn’t swarms of them but still enough to wow you. Apparently it’s better right after the rain and on moonless nights. In case you’re wondering, this is the same place for the mangrove tour, but a shorter ride because it is it safe to go into the mangrove at night when the snakes come out. :)
