Big Island Farms Tour in Hawaii

Description
Big Island Farms is spread across 64 acres along the breathtaking Hamakua Coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean with panoramic views from Waipio to Hilo. The farm is carved into two large sections by the historic Hamakua canal which brings water from the pristine Kohala forest preserve and provides irrigation to the lower (makai) section of the property. The upper (Mauka) portion, which is above the canal, of the farm is planted in organically grown Macadamia nuts and Kukui nuts (candle nut). The lower portion below the canal is a diverse collection of permaculture food forests, a variety of themed gardens, coconut orchards and living spaces for our Big Island educational programs. The gardens contain over 200 unique species of edible and medicinal plants including: Coffee, Banana, Papaya, Cassava, Taro, Ginger, Turmeric, Cacao, Avocado, Breadfruit, Coconut, Sugar Can, Sweet Potatoes, Kukui, Ti (KI) and a wide variety of Bamboos just to name a few.

This was an AMAZING experience. We went on 1/29/26, and our tour and tour guide were absolutely fantastic! They gave us a tasting experience of some of the things on the farm and showed us around the absolutely beautiful property. Our guide was fun, energetic, and very knowledgeable. This was a great experience!
This was a great experience for us. Daisy, our tour guide and farm manager was a wealth of knowledge and answered all of our questions. The different fruit we were able to try were awesome.
It was a wonderful experience. Our tour guide also manages this farm. First, we were able to taste the fruits that we were going to see on the tour. It is so interesting to hear about the intermingling of plant life for their survival. Right now the fruits and herbs are used in recipes to feed the student workers .
Daisy was a great tour guide and we enjoyed learning about the edible and medicinal plants on the farm. This tour was a great addition to our drive to Honokaa and the Waipio Valley.
We started with a fruit tasting and then took an easy walk through an interesting little farm. The personable guide provided lots of good information.
Great tour and information on Hawaiian permaculture, and medical benefits of several local plants. Bakery has some amazing looking treats as well as tinctures for sale.
We had such a great time with Amy! She was so knowledgeable and we learned a lot! We got to enjoy so many delicious fruits and nuts, great smells, and a beautiful view. Wow! Thanks to Amy and the wonderful farm we had an amazing time!
My husband and I had a tour last week at Big Island Farms. We came away impressed with the level of care and stewardship at the farm. Tours are private, which gives visitors a chance to ask as many questions as they'd like. Our guide, Amy, was very helpful and is clearly passionate about her work. It was a lovely way to see something that's a bit off the beaten tourist path. For those interested in sustainable farming, or who are simply fascinated by the amazing flora that thrive on the Big Island, this one-hour tour is a worthwhile activity.
Sampling different plants and fruits from the farm along with useful information for those wanting to learn more about farming esp those who are into vegan and plant-based. Amy our guide was great.
We enjoyed our time at this farm. They were very accommodating of my wife, who was having knee issues and didn't want to do the full "food forest" tour. The owner gave us a private tour of their new demonstration garden near the office. We did get to enjoy the sample tray of flowers, fruits, leaves, and nuts (see picture). Very informative and friendly staff. They even offered my wife some tinctures that might help with her condition.
