Our Lady of the Rocks is one of the two islets off the coast of Perast in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro. It is an artificial island created by bulwark of rocks and by sinking old and seized ships loaded with rocks. The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rocks is the largest building on the islet; it has a museum attached. According to legend, the islet was made over the centuries by local seamen who kept an ancient oath after finding the icon of Madonna and Child on the rock in the sea on 22 July 1452. Upon returning from each successful voyage, they laid a rock in the Bay. Over time, the islet gradually emerged from the sea. The custom of throwing rocks into the sea is alive even nowadays. Every year on the sunset of 22 July, an event called fašinada in the local dialect, when local residents take their boats and throw rocks into the sea, widening the surface of the island, takes place. The church was renovated in 1722.

Our guide Elvir was terrific. he was very knowledgeable and was excited to show us many highlights. We felt like we got a great overview of Montenegro and a true cultural experience. We had a great meal at a local restaurant in Budva which was a highlight
Elvir is an amazing tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro. We particularly enjoyed his knowledge of the countries history. He made our experience very personalized and filled with humor and kindness. He knew exactly where to take us when we told him what we wanted and also chose wonderful meal venues to enjoy. The Kotor tour became a very nice memory thanks to my wonderful guide, Luca. The seafood lunch was also great. Even the border crossing we were worried about, we were able to check the traffic situation in real time and pass through the smaller gate and back in just 10 minutes. Optionally, we took a private boat around the bay and then took the cable car up to the summit, where the view from above was amazing. Finally, thanks to Cavtat, we ended our trip with a nice memory!
It was a perfect day. The transportation was perfect. The person who used it was both polite and very helpful. We went back and forth from Dubrovnik on a wonderful journey. I highly recommend it.

We had a lovely day with Elvir. Budhva was our favorite place and we had a very traditional lunch at a recommended restaurant which we all loved. Elvir was a great host and communicator . Scenery was beautiful.

This private tour in Dubronvick was one of the best private tours I’ve had . The trip was curated to my needs and even though it was an extremely hot day Elvir went out of his way to ensure we stayed cool and enjoyed the day .

Elvir took us on such a an amazing adventure! He is so easy going and knows places to go that only locals would know. We saw the highlights of the places tour buses would take tourists, but it was all the other jewels of the area that you wouldn't have ever known about if it wasn't for such an amazing tour guide. Elvir also is very considerate and gives you choices on what is available. If you are unable to walk very much he finds another way for you to see the areas. We so enjoyed our adventure with Elvir. We can't thank him enough for such a wonderful day!
