Description
What if I told you that most travelers who visit Bern only scratch the surface of this city? They walk through its medieval streets, admire the clock tower, and maybe take a few photos by the Aare River, but they miss the stories that breathe life into every stone, every corner café, and every hidden alley. Without someone to reveal those secrets, it’s easy to leave thinking you’ve seen Bern, when really, you’ve only met its postcard version. That’s where the Walking Tour in Bern changes everything. We were really disappointed in this walking tour of Bern. We booked this tour after reading many positive reviews on this site that seem to be for the guides Caterina or Juan. I think our guide name was Mina. She was nice, but needs additional training to be a good guide. We were late starting, which was our fault, but I wish she had explained that we could either skip the first stop and walk quickly to the clock tower to make it, or sacrifice the clock tower and do the normal pace. Instead, after the first couple of stops, she started speed walking a very long distance towards the clock with no explanation. Some of our family could not keep up. We still missed the clock tower going off. In addition to this miscommunication, she often would just start talking while walking to whoever was next to her and the rest of the group could not hear. I think it would be a better practice to get to a spot and then stop and speak. If she wants to speak while walking, she needs to turn and speak loudly so the whole group can hear. The delivery of the information was not very lively or engaging. She spoke softly and was not enthusiastic. We sometimes asked follow up questions that she did not know the answers to. We completed the tour in only 1 hour 15 minutes and it was supposed to be a 2 hour tour. She offered to take us up to the Rose Garden, which is not part of the tour, but it was so hot that we declined. I think that this guide needs more training about how to effectively lead a tour and communicate. In addition, she needs more training about topics people will ask questions about and more information about little known facts and stories that visitors want to know about to really make this a 2 hour tour. .
Guide was knowledgeable about Bern It seems we were waiting his time Toured in circles Sometimes a block ahead of us He was glad tour ended
Dear Stanley, Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you found the guide knowledgeable about Bern. However, we are sorry that the pace and style of the tour did not meet your expectations. Our guides are encouraged to adapt to the group's walking pace while covering the planned itinerary efficiently. We have shared your comments with the guide to help us continue improving the experience we provide. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for joining our tour. Have a nice day!
While our guide took us to potentially interesting sites around Bern's old town, we did not end up learning much about them, or about Bern. The content offered was very thin. She did get us to the old clock just before it changed the hour but there was very little offered on the development of the city, the meaning of the unique flags, role of the river, canal, or the remarkable gardens. Some of our small group (5 total) asked questions, and the guide did have brief answers, but never delved into the kind of information we've come to expect of trip advisor recommend tours. Instead we heard about some dates, some past rulers and the statues they erected. My son and I, both real fans of history and cities, were disappointed because we wanted to learn something special about Bern.
Dear Mary V, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We are sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable introduction to Bern's history, culture, and landmarks, while adapting the content to the interests and engagement of each group. We appreciate your comments regarding the depth of information provided and will share them with the guide for review. At the same time, we are pleased that you were able to experience some of Bern's most iconic locations, including the Clock Tower at the top of the hour. We value your feedback and will use it to continue improving the experience for future guests. Have a nice day!
To say I was disappointed with this tour would be an understatement. The tour operator in Switzerland never answered the phone (called 2x before the tour while overseas) nor did they respond to an email prior. Did not receive the name of our guide and Instructions to meet the guide were terrible. It took almost an hour to find the spot. The guide herself, Meno, was not very good at speaking English. She followed the script given, did not embelish, was not engaging to us or the tour we were on. Had to tell her to turn around to speak to us directly. The tour was to be 2 hours - ours lasted 1.5 hours (thank goodness). If there were hidden gems on this tour, they never surfaced for us. I can not recommend this tour and if would strongly request a refund as it was truly not worth our time to travel from Zurich to Bern for this tour.
Dear Madelyn Bender, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. We would like to clarify that the meeting point instructions are provided in the booking confirmation and are used successfully by the vast majority of our guests. The tour duration may vary slightly depending on the pace of the group, questions asked during the tour, and operational circumstances on the day. We appreciate your comments regarding communication and the delivery of the tour, and we will share them with our team as part of our ongoing efforts to improve the experience for future travelers. Have a nice day!

Juan Pablo was a wonderful guide. We booked a tour in Lucerne, and they canceled it with 24 hours' notice. The one in Bern was great due to the professionalism of the guide.

Wonderful background on Bern, learned a lot in 2 hrs. Our guide Karina was an excellent- well spoken- could hear her, kept group together, answered questions. One of the best guides we have experienced.
