This activity offers guided walking tours focused on the exterior and architectural details of the facade of Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona. The Sagrada Familia has been under construction since 1882 and is one of the largest ongoing architectural projects in Europe. The basilica features two completed monumental facades, the Nativity Facade, which Gaudi supervised directly, and the Passion Facade, completed after his death with sculptures by Josep Maria Subirachs. A third facade, the Glory Facade, is currently planned. Your guide will explain the architectural details, religious symbolism, and construction history visible from outside the basilica. The Sagrada Familia is located in Barcelona’s Eixample district, a neighborhood designed in the 19th century by urban planner Ildefons Cerda. The area is known for its grid layout with distinctive octagonal blocks and its concentration of Catalan Modernist buildings.

Guests meet their guide in front of the KFC on Avinguda de Gaudi and begin with a reading of the Nativity Facade, the only facade Gaudi supervised directly, where stone carvings depict scenes from Christ's life alongside plants, animals, and insects drawn from nature. The tour continues to the Passion Facade, sculpted by Josep Maria Subirachs after Gaudi's death, where the guide decodes the symbolic narrative of the crucifixion and a mathematical magic square hidden in the stone. Throughout the walk, travelers gain context on the Eixample district's 19th-century grid design and its place in the story of Catalan Modernism. The tour closes with an overview of the ongoing construction and the planned Glory Facade. Tickets are not included.

Deceptive ad for EXTERIOR ONLY of the Sagrada Familia. Ad and emails were NOT made clear until it was too late to book tickets for inside the cathedral AND too late to cancel this tour. If it was made clear at the time of booking we would have had time to book actual tickets to tour the Sagrada Família.

Our guide was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer any question. She provided fascinating insights into the history and architecture of the Sagrada Família and current/future building works, as well as the life of Gaudi. She also shared suggestions of where to eat and other attractions to see nearby. The experience was great but a little short; while the tour was advertised to run an hour it only went for 45 minutes.
