It was an experience...

was a very nice and pleasant experience, a beautiful place and a local guide who speaks great English as well as being really nice! The only thing is that lopburi is not recommended for overpopulation of monkeys, and as a result the guide takes you to see another temple populated by monkeys who, however, know how to live with humans.

Operator response

Dear Mattia_S, Thank you so much for your kind words! We are thrilled to hear you had such a beautiful experience and enjoyed the company of our guide. We appreciate your understanding regarding the change in itinerary. While Lopburi is iconic, the current monkey overpopulation has made it a bit unpredictable for our guests. We’ve found that the alternative temple offers a much more peaceful and 'friendly' interaction with the local wildlife. We’ll be sure to pass your compliments along to the guide! Safe travels! Best regards,

Ayutthaya day trip with the great Khun Geng

My sister and I were treated to a fantastic day at Ayutthaya historical park by Khun Geng. Even though it was just the 3 of us, he gave us the full experience and more. He was very polite, informative and personable; educating us on what we were seeing while maintaining great conversation. Our party was small but he was still willing to drive us in his vehicle and surprise us with local food along the way. Khun Geng was one of our favorite people we met in Thailand and we will remember this adventure forever! Thank you from Megan and Alex Lilley.

A great day, don't miss this opportunity to leave Bangkok and see some village life mixed with amazing temples and history.

The size of the party is unknown until 08:00 when we meet the host for the day (Mr Geng). My trip was just one guest, me! I felt lucky and privileged as we left the meeting point heading for our first Pit stop, coffee and comfort ahead of a 40 minute drive to the first temple. Mr Geng is incredibly knowledgeable and as the stop is timed well there were fewer people around so have the time to stop and contemplate in peace was very welcome. We move on, away from the highways passing through smaller village down side tracks and discovering a temple nearby with much history and discovery. Next, the giant golden Buddha, now fully restored and set in an area fighting scenes, cruel fairy tale scenes, torturously hideous scenes all depicting the morality of life. Lunch was a short drive away to a cafe set in its own grounds (Notre Maison!!) Small, but a huge great lunch-sized menu (I chose a beef curry dish, absolutely delicious). Coffee is great too. Now the disappointment, and nothing to do with the tour company; The temple famous for its playful monkey population can no longer have that claim to fame. Local politics has decimated the numbers to a few that still roam the streets, unkempt and pretty doleful. It's a long journey back to Bangkok so be prepared for long traffic ques as there are many ongoing road repairs going on.

Operator response

Hi JackCar, Thank you for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful account of your day with us! We are so glad you felt like a "privileged" guest on your solo adventure. At Explorenique, we love showing our guests the side of Thailand that exists beyond the highways—the quiet village life and the hidden historical gems that offer a moment of peace and contemplation. It's wonderful to hear that Mr. Geng’s deep knowledge helped bring these stories to life for you. We're also delighted you enjoyed the stop at Notre Maison! We take pride in selecting local spots that offer truly delicious, authentic flavors like that beef curry. Regarding the monkeys in Lopburi, we appreciate your honest feedback. Local wildlife management is indeed changing the landscape there, but we are committed to ensuring our tours remain a deep and meaningful discovery of Thai history and morality, as you saw at the giant golden Buddha. Thank you for the recommendation despite the long journey back through Bangkok’s famous traffic! We hope to welcome you back for another "off-the-beaten-path" experience soon. Best regards,
