The North Head Historic Reserve, situated at the entrance of Waitemata Harbour, is one of Auckland’s volcanic mountain. It was transformed into a fortress in the late 1800s to defend against potential Russian invasions. Tunnels and cannons were strategically placed here as a deterrent against foreign aggression. Here you will experience entering the tunnel and come face to face with cannons made with the best technology of the time.

This was an amazing half day tour which covered all the main tourist attractions in Auckland. Sam was a fantastic guide whose zest and knowledge made the day truly memorable. There was ample time to pause and behold the breath-taking beauty of Auckland namely the Harbour Bridge, Westhaven Marina, North Head volcanic mountain, Mount Eden and the War memorial. We strongly recommend this tour. The route covered the best sights of Auckland in just one morning. And we have plenty of time to make stops, take pictures and enjoy the places visited. Our tour guide/ driver, Sam was very courteous, friendly, knowledgeable and gave us recommendations for the rest of the day. The minibus was very clean and comfortable (we were only 4 passengers).

This tour was extremely disappointing for many reasons. The driver was not knowledgeable and was unable to answer even basic questions about the area. More concerning, we missed 3 out of the 6 scheduled stops on the itinerary, which is completely unacceptable. For example, the Holy Trinity Cathedral was closed—something the guide should have known in advance. Instead, we were dropped off at a random art gallery that was not even part of the itinerary. During stops, the driver would not stay with the group and instead told us to text him when we were ready to be picked up. At one point, he even left to get lunch while we were at the gallery. We also missed key locations entirely, including Westhaven Marina and North Head Reserve, which were highlights we were looking forward to. We travel frequently around the world and typically rely on Viator for well-organized, high-quality tours, so this experience was incredibly disappointing. The tour felt misrepresented and poorly executed. I would not recommend this tour to anyone and would actively suggest others avoid it. This experience did not reflect the tour description or the standard we have come to expect. Based on the missed itinerary items and overall service issues, I believe a refund is warranted. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to your response.

However, we understand from the guide that it was not that they failed to answer all questions, but rather that there were some questions unrelated to the tour that they could not address. It can be difficult for a guide to respond to every individual question, especially those not connected to the tour itself. Regarding the itinerary, the weather on the day was not favorable, and visibility at North Head was poor due to fog. The guide discussed this with you in advance and suggested visiting an alternative location instead. We were informed that you were satisfied with this change, as it still allowed you to experience New Zealand’s natural scenery. Therefore, we find it difficult to understand the negative review submitted after the tour, particularly if it was intended to request a refund. You also mentioned that the guide left to have lunch while you were visiting the art gallery. The guide has clarified that this is not accurate—they only ate a banana outside, not inside the vehicle, and did not leave the group for a meal. We believe it is not appropriate to include assumptions or unverified claims in a review. We consider reviews to be valuable feedback that should reflect both the positive and negative aspects of the experience. Additionally, it is clearly stated that Holy Trinity Cathedral may be closed at times, and if so, it cannot be visited. It seems that the efforts made by the guide have not been fully taken into account. Based on the overall situation, we have concluded that the negative review appears to have been written solely to request a refund. Therefore, we regret to inform you that we will not be issuing a refund. Thank you for your understanding.
