The Ex Hacienda de San Gabriel de la Barrera is an outstanding example of colonial architecture in Guanajuato, built in the 18th century. Originally, this hacienda was a centre of agricultural and livestock production, with a focus on the exploitation of the region's natural resources. Over time, the hacienda became an important refuge for local elites, who enjoyed its beautiful garden and neoclassical architecture. In addition, the hacienda witnessed the transition of the local economy from agriculture to mining, making it a symbol of the region's agricultural history. Today, the former hacienda houses a beautiful garden and cultural spaces, serving as a reminder of Guanajuato's historical legacy.

60 min

The Castillo de Santa Cecilia, located on top of a hill, was built in the 19th century as a private residence. This building reflects the influence of the neo-Gothic architectural style and is an example of the urban development that took place in Guanajuato during this period. Originally, the property belonged to the family of a notable miner, underlining the connection between the wealth generated by mining and the architectural boom of the city. Over the years, the castle has been used for various purposes, including social and cultural events. Today, the Castillo de Santa Cecilia is not only a tourist attraction, but also a space for artistic and cultural activities, preserving the history of the Guanajuato elite.

The 1791 Valencian Mine Museum is a space that allows visitors to delve into the heart of the mining history that gave rise to and enriched the city. Located in one of the region’s most iconic mines, this site recreates the conditions and mining techniques used since the late 18th century, when Guanajuato was establishing itself as one of the world’s leading silver-producing centers. Through its tunnels, original tools, and historical accounts, visitors can understand the complexity of mining work and the fundamental role it played in the area’s economic and social development. Beyond its educational value, the mine offers an immersive experience that connects directly with the past, serving as a living testament to Guanajuato’s industrial and cultural legacy.

The Guadalupe Mine and its imposing Guadalupe Silo stand out as one of the most iconic symbols of the mining legacy of the Valenciana region. From the outside, its industrial architecture conveys the magnitude of an era when mineral extraction defined the rhythm of life and the prosperity of Guanajuato. Its sturdy structures, designed to withstand grueling workdays and massive volumes of material, reflect the engineering and ambition of centuries past. Although today it can only be viewed from the outside, its presence continues to evoke the grandeur of New Spain’s mining era, serving as a visual landmark that connects visitors with the history and identity of this iconic area.

20 min

The Rayas Mine is one of the most emblematic mines in Guanajuato, known for its rich silver production during colonial times. Its exploitation began in the late 18th century and it quickly became one of the most productive in the region. The mine has been an important testimony to Guanajuato's mining history, where thousands of workers, mostly indigenous and mestizos, toiled under difficult conditions. During its heyday, the mine produced a significant amount of precious metals that sustained the economy of New Spain. Today, the Rayas Mine offers guided tours that allow visitors to learn about the methods of mineral extraction and the life of the miners at the time, providing a valuable insight into the mining history of the city.

10 min

We will visit a Guanajuato Baroque jewelry shop, where you’ll receive an introduction to local jewelry craftsmanship and have the option to purchase a piece of jewelry—purchases are entirely optional.

Amazing time with Flor!

My cousin and I went on the ATV mine/city tour and the adventure tour and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Flor was our English speaking guide and was excellent. She was kind, knowledgeable and fun! The first tour takes you to a beautiful old hacienda and two mines with a few other stops along the way. The adventure tour (our favorite) really brings you into the mountains with stops in different parts of the city as well. It was really breathtaking and exhilarating but not too scary. They will go at the pace that suits you and are always checking to make sure you are comfortable. Our quads were brand new and huge! We were only two guests but booked for four because we wanted to each have our own ATV. Flor accompanied us on the city/mine tour and for the adventure tour it was Flor and another nice gentleman. The ATV’s were extremely easy to ride and we were safely guided everywhere we went. Would 100% recommend doing this, had so much fun the first day booked agin for another. Hope to see you all again! Thank you guys, Brooke and Kim.

Guanajuato ATV tour November 2024

We thoroughly enjoyed our ATV tour around the Guanajuato area. Each family member had their own ATV, which was a great way to explore the region. The ATVs were well-maintained and easy to ride, with automatic transmissions and good brakes. The smaller size of the ATVs made it easy to navigate the streets, and they were also maneuverable.

Excellent experience, it was a super fun tour with very good views and excellent guided tours. I recommend wearing long sleeves, sunglasses and something to cover your face from the sun.

Scenic and enjoyable

This was a fabulous experience. Our guide Michael was passionate about history and we learned so much. There were several really interesting stops and we really enjoyed the scenic views on the ATV. Note, these are two front wheeled machines and feel much different if you’re used to driving a motorcycle.

What an adventure!

What a fun day! Wish I had a go pro so I could re-live this experience. Definitely saw some sites we would otherwise have not. Our English speaking tour guide, Michel was very knowledgeable of the hacienda, mine, castle and Guanajuato in general. He was also very good at making the experience interesting for my young son (stopping for ice cream didn't hurt 😊) and enjoyable. This tour is perfect for someone who is an experienced driver and used to ATVs (if you will be driving) and you should have a sense of adventure!
