ANNECY | Private Walking Tour of Annecy's Historical Center

Description
Visit one of the cutest cities of the Rhône-Alpes region of France: Annecy. It's situated in the Alps, so if you love skiing this is the place for you. Today, you can enjoy a private walking tour of Annecy with a private guide who will take you to all the spots that interest you most! Also known as the "Second Venice," Annecy has plenty of beauty in store. See the Palais de l'Isle, which was a prison in the 12th century, and for something completely different, move on to cross the bridge of lovers. Another must-see is the gleaming lake of Annecy, inarguably a city highlight. Before you end your day in Annecy, you are also recommended to visit the Old Town, a lovely area full of quaint cafés to keep visitors well-fueled and busy. If there is any place in particular you would like to go but it is not mentioned in the tour description, just ask your guide and he or she will be happy to take you wherever you want to go.

We were a bit disappointed with this tour. First, it was overpriced for 2 hours (over $500 US for 2 people) but it was the only private one available on the day we wanted so we tried it. Slay was our guide. He was personable and spoke English well. He was accommodating and showed us around. There were a few things he told us on the tour that we found out later was not correct so that was a bit disappointing. He was very knowledgeable about the old city and took us around which allowed us to become familiarized with it which was nice. He also met us at our hotel since there was a mix up about the starting point. The thing that was very unsettling was at the end of the tour he actually told us that his tip was not included so it was clear he was trying to get a tip. After paying more than $500 for just 2 hours of guiding and the. strongly hinting about giving him a tip left a sour taste in our mouths. If they lowered the price this would be worth going on. But for more than $500 for just 2 hours, you can learn and familiarize yourself with the old town with a travel guide and map.
Dear Karen, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. First of all, please accept our sincere apologies regarding the request for a tip. This is absolutely not something we encourage or request from our guides, and we will address this matter directly with Sley. Regarding the price, we would like to clarify that more than 30% of the selling price is retained by Viator as commission. In addition, French VAT of 20% is included, which means that nearly half of the total price corresponds to taxes and platform fees. As you mentioned yourself, we were the only tour available at that time, which is an important factor when making a booking decision. Finally, while it is of course possible to explore a city independently with a map, choosing a guided tour offers deeper insights, local knowledge, and a richer understanding of the destination — which is precisely why many travelers opt for this type of experience. We truly appreciate your understanding and hope this clarifies the situation. Best regards, Joe
Slay was excellent guide, provided good historical information of what we were seeing. Two hours was perfect intro to this charming and marvelous town.
This was an excellent tour. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and so friendly. We really liked that the tour was only two hours so we could get an idea of the village and then have time to explore on our own.
Aude is a fabulous guide with much information to share about Annecy. She gave great tips for follow up activities and restaurants, as well.
