Medeu Ice Skating Rink: Located at a high altitude, Medeu is one of the world’s largest outdoor rinks, known for its beautiful mountain backdrop. It’s a popular place for skating, especially in winter, and a fun way to experience Almaty’s love of sports.
Nestled in the stunning Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, Shymbulak is a ski and snowboard paradise in winter, and a great spot for hiking and views year-round. It’s a quick cable car ride from the city and offers cafes, restaurants, and breathtaking alpine scenery.
This peaceful park honors the Panfilov Heroes, a group of soldiers who fought in World War II. Stroll around its paths, enjoy the greenery, and visit the striking war memorial and eternal flame, a tribute to their bravery.
Green Bazaar (Zelyony Bazar): A vibrant market where locals and visitors alike come to buy fresh produce, meats, and traditional Kazakh foods. It’s a perfect spot to try regional flavors, such as dried fruits, horse sausage, and sweets.
Zenkov Cathedral: Located in Panfilov Park. Built without a single nail, it’s one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world and a unique part of Almaty’s history.
Koktobe offers the best panoramic views of Almaty and the mountains beyond. On the top, where you’ll find a small amusement park, cafes, and the iconic Koktobe TV Tower, one of the tallest towers in the world. The Kok-Tobe TV Tower is a television and radio broadcasting tower in Almaty, Kazakhstan, built between 1975 and 1983. Commissioning date: June 1, 1984. The tower is the 2nd tallest free-standing structure in Kazakhstan and the 41st tallest in the world (9th tallest in the world at the time of commissioning), and the 14th tallest television tower in the world (4th tallest in the world at the time of commissioning). The tower is located below the summit of Mount Kok-Tobe, southeast of the city center. Tower height: 371.5 m. Tower height above sea level: 1,452 m (together with Mount Kok-Tobe).

Shymbulak was the highlight of this trip. Beautiful views at the top and even in the cable car ride. We travelled in July and it was hot! The cable car ride felt long and unbearable because of the weather. Abukhair, our guide was great, and took time to show us around and despite the hot weather, his spirits were high. Medeu ice rink was closed and there was nothing much to do there other than getting a coffee. The green bazar is a good place to get some souvenirs. Koktobe had nice views of the city and the fast coaster is a must do.

Too expensive but I did not enjoy. I should have just done a DIY. You have to message the tour operator's WhatsApp to know where the actual meeting point is. Additionally, the instruction via WhatsApp mentioned that the tour bus would easily recognisable but it wasn't the case at all. I had to ask the driver if he was driving for JoinMe Asia. Most of us were earlier than the tour guide. Overall, the itinerary was also lackluster. No free bottle of water unlike the other tour operators, and no hotel pick-up.
Slow and long but definitely worthwhile the trip. Almaty is spread out and has so much to offer. On this trip, you find out about so many facets of this city. From 3200 metres altitude to the beautiful cathedral. Deniz our guide was fantastic and bright and able to explain it all.
We booked the tour at night for the next day morning but The tour operator did not connect with us at all. The tour operator did not show up at the pick up location. He did not even bothered to connect us, call us or reply us on app or reply to the Viator executives also. He left us and took our money and on top of that the app executives denied our refund citing that the tour operator has rejected the refund. How the culprit is allowed to pass judgement on his own wrongdoings. It’s extremely pathetic to waste our day in the hope of this tour. Better to opt for any other good tour operator.
Tour price was equivalent to worth trip! No regrets everything was set and perfect. I highly suggest to get a private tour no hassle and smooth travel only.
