The construction of the mosque began in 1996 and eventually opened to public in 2007. The architectural design of the mosque depicts the Islamic culture and the richness of modern architecture. Named as the third largest mosque in the world, it is decorated with Italian and Greek marble known to be the purest form of marble in the world. The mosque can take around 41,000 worshipers at one time. Important Information
- Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller
- Infants are required to sit on an adult’s lap
- Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
- A dress code is mandatory to enter places of worship. No shorts, no sleeveless tops, no transparent and appealing clothing are allowed. Ladies must cover their head must be covered with a scarf. A full sleeves shirt upto wrist and pants upto the feet must be worn. Hands must be covered till the wrist. You may be refused entry if you fail to comply with these dress requirements. No eating or smoking is allowed inside or around the mosque premises.

We had a wonderful day, also seen the new Louvre Abu Dhabi museum for a 15 min fotomoment and walk down the canal. Very kind and experienced tourguide and driver. Small group. Very much variation in the programme, although the mosque is main attraction. It gave us a good view of al the places to visit in Abu Dhabi . Our teens also enjoyed it which is not always the case😅. The Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque was nothing short of spectacular! The other stops for photos at Ferrari World and the Presidential Palace, a tour of Heritage Village, and the drive around the city rounded out a rather long day. The guide was very informative and the price was very reasonable. Don’t miss the Grand Mosque!
