The Omo Valley had been on our bucket list for years, and after completing this 8-day tour, I can honestly say it was one of the most rewarding trips we've ever taken. What made this journey so memorable wasn't just the incredible tribes we visited, but the people who made it all happen. Our guide, Berekat, was exceptional. He's incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about sharing the history and culture of the Omo Valley. Every day we learnt something new, and he always took the time to answer our questions and explain the traditions and customs of each community. We never felt rushed, and it was obvious that he has built genuine trust with the local people, which made every visit feel respectful and authentic. A big thank you also goes to our driver, DJ. We spent many hours on some very rough roads, yet we always felt comfortable and safe. He was calm, professional, and always in a good mood. The vehicle was well looked after, and his driving made the long travel days much easier than we expected. The camping experience was another highlight, and Gizaw, our chef, deserves enormous credit. We still can't believe the quality of the meals he prepared in such remote locations. Every meal was fresh, filling and delicious, and somehow he managed to serve food that felt like it came from a proper kitchen rather than a campsite. After long days exploring the Omo Valley, his meals were something we genuinely looked forward to. Without a doubt, our favourite part of the trip was spending the night with the Kwegu community. It felt like a real privilege to stay in such a remote place rather than simply visiting for an hour or two. Watching daily life unfold, spending the evening by the Omo River, and waking up surrounded by nature made the experience feel incredibly genuine. It wasn't about putting on a show for visitors—it felt like we were being welcomed into a community and given the chance to appreciate a completely different way of life. It was peaceful, humbling and something we'll remember for many years. The itinerary itself was excellent. Every day offered something different, from meeting the Mursi, Hamer, Nyangatom, Kara, Dassanech, Arbore, Konso and Dorze communities to exploring beautiful landscapes and finishing with the Lake Chamo boat safari. The balance between cultural experiences, driving and relaxation was just right. A heartfelt thank you to Berekat for all your hard work. Your professionalism, friendliness and genuine care turned a great itinerary into an extraordinary experience. If you're looking for an authentic Omo Valley adventure, this is the team you want. We wouldn't change a thing and would recommend this tour without hesitation.
Dear Ash, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and detailed review. Reading your kind words truly means the world to us. It was an absolute pleasure to share the incredible cultures and landscapes of the Omo Valley with you. Knowing that this journey had been on your bucket list for years makes us especially grateful that it exceeded your expectations. Our goal is always to create authentic, respectful, and meaningful experiences, so hearing that you felt genuinely welcomed by the communities is the greatest compliment we could receive. Thank you for your generous words about me, DJ, and Gizaw. I will be sure to share your appreciation with both of them—they will be delighted to know they helped make your adventure so memorable. From navigating the challenging roads to preparing delicious meals in remote camps, they always give their very best, and your recognition means a great deal to all of us. I’m especially happy that your overnight stay with the Kwegu community became the highlight of your trip. It is one of the most unique experiences we offer, allowing our guests to connect with the community in a respectful and meaningful way beyond a simple visit. Moments like these are what make the Omo Valley so special. Thank you once again for trusting us with your adventure and for recommending us so highly. It was a privilege to travel with you, and we hope to welcome you back to Ethiopia one day—perhaps to discover the Simien Mountains, the Danakil Depression, Bale Mountains, Lalibela, or many more hidden gems our beautiful country has to offer. Until we meet again, we wish you safe travels and all the very best. With sincere gratitude, Bereket Tadesse General Manager | Omo Region Tours
One of the best travel experiences we've ever had! It wasn't just another sightseeing tour. It was an incredible opportunity to experience some of Ethiopia's most fascinating cultures and meet communities that have preserved their traditions for generations. A huge thank you to our guide, Berekat. He was fantastic from start to finish. He wasn't just a guide, he became part of the experience. His knowledge of every tribe, their customs, history and way of life was amazing, and he explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and genuinely interesting. What really stood out was the respect he has from the local communities. Everywhere we went, it was clear he had built real relationships over the years, which made our visits feel natural and welcoming. He was also incredibly patient, never rushed us, happily answered all of our questions, and always made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves. You can really tell he's passionate about what he does, and that made a huge difference to the trip. A big shout-out as well to our driver, DJ. The roads in the Omo Valley are long, rough and challenging, but we always felt completely safe. He handled every road with confidence and somehow always had a smile on his face. The vehicle was spotless every morning, and he never minded stopping whenever we wanted to take photos of the scenery or village life. Our camp chef, Gizaw, deserves just as much credit. We honestly couldn't believe the meals he prepared during our two nights of camping. Being out in such remote places, we expected simple food, but every meal was fresh, tasty and surprisingly varied. After a full day of exploring, sitting down to a hot dinner under the stars was something we looked forward to every evening. He worked incredibly hard behind the scenes and always did it with a smile. The itinerary was excellent. Every day was different, from meeting the Mursi, Hamer, Nyangatom, Kwegu, Kara, Dassanech, Arbore, Konso and Dorze people, to camping in the Omo Valley, exploring traditional villages, and finishing with the beautiful Lake Chamo boat safari. It was well organised, never felt rushed, and gave us plenty of time to enjoy each place. The highlight of the entire trip was definitely our overnight stay with the Kwegu people. This wasn't a staged cultural performance or a quick photo stop, it felt like a genuine opportunity to experience life in one of the most remote communities in the Omo Valley. Spending the evening there, watching the sunset over the Omo River, sitting around the camp, and waking up surrounded by the sounds of the village made us feel connected to the place in a way that's impossible on a day visit. It was peaceful, authentic, and one of those rare travel experiences that reminds you why you travel in the first place. These are the moments we'll remember long after we've forgotten hotel rooms or tourist attractions. A massive thank you to Berekat, DJ and Gizaw for making this such an unforgettable trip. Your professionalism, kindness, sense of humour and genuine care for your guests made all the difference. If you're thinking about visiting the Omo Valley, I can't recommend this team highly enough. This is one of those trips that will stay with us for a very long time.

Your kind words about me, our driver DJ, and our camp chef Gizaw are deeply appreciated. I will be sure to share your compliments with them. They work incredibly hard to make every journey safe, comfortable, and memorable, and they will be delighted to know they helped make your adventure so special. I’m especially happy that your overnight stay with the Kwegu community became the highlight of your trip. Those authentic moments of sharing daily life, watching the sunset over the Omo River, and spending the night in such a remote and welcoming community are exactly the kind of meaningful experiences we hope every traveler takes home. We hope to welcome you back to Ethiopia one day for another adventure, whether it’s exploring more of the Omo Valley or discovering other remarkable regions of our country. We got Bereket recommended by another guide in Harar we met through the Austrian embassy. And what a fortuitous recommendation that was! We had the most wonderful, educational, thought provoking and also fun days with Bereket and his driver traveling through the Omo valley. He organised a perfect route for us where we got to meet quite a number of tribes but also had time to explore nature and the amazingly varied landscape. Having grown up in the Omo valley, speaking many of the different languages and being a very compassionate yet easy going young man Bereket was perfectly suited to create an atmosphere of understanding and trust wherever we went. He gave us such an unbelievable experience for which we are are very grateful! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Thank you so much, Regina, for your beautiful and heartfelt review! 🌍🙏 It truly means a lot to hear that your journey through the Omo Valley was such a life enriching experience. We are very happy that you enjoyed not only the tribal visits, but also the landscapes, nature, and meaningful cultural exchanges along the way. It was an absolute pleasure to travel with you and share the traditions, stories, and daily life of the Omo Valley communities. Creating genuine connections and respectful experiences for our guests is always our goal, so your kind words mean so much to us. Thank you again for your trust, your curiosity, and your wonderful company throughout the tour. We hope to welcome you back to Ethiopia again one day for more unforgettable adventures! Warm regards, Bereket & Omo Region Tours
Bereket is a great guide, the best for the Omo Valley region. We traveled as a family (3) and discovered the Valley tribes with enough time and pace to allow us to get to know them better. Not only is the typical photo trip and car. We were able to talk to them, Bereket knows many of their dialects, play with children, fish with men and in some of the villages eat and sleep in the same village. Meeting the Kwegu tribe in a village where children don’t even reach roads was a unique experience. And all with an exquisite respect to its inhabitants that gradually open to visitors and after a few hours allows to have a relationship of mutual curiosity. We turned with the camera full of photos, the memory of unforgettable experiences and the open heart to another reality. I highly recommend it for family use and we are seriously considering repeating it.
Dear Raquel, Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful review. It truly means a lot to us. We are very happy to hear that your family had such a meaningful and immersive experience in the Omo Valley. Creating respectful, safe, and authentic connections with the communities is at the heart of what we do, and it’s wonderful to know you felt that throughout your journey. Sharing moments like playing with the children, fishing with the men, and spending time within the villages—especially your unique visit to the Kwegu tribe—are experiences we are proud to offer in a genuine and responsible way. Thank you again for your kind recommendation. It would be our great pleasure to welcome you and your family back anytime for another unforgettable journey. With sincere gratitude, Bereket Tadesse General Manager | Omo Region Tours
Unique experience in a very respectful and safe way. Bereket has a broad and extensive experience in Omo Valley. Everybody knows him and he is a very respected guide in Ethiopia. He knows the region since he is originally from there and speaks fluently many of the dialects of the tribes. We, a Spanish family of three, traveled very safe with Bereket and his driver in a 4x4 Land Cruiser and discover the authentic Omo Valley with direct and quiet contact with the people. The way Bereket organized it allowed us to step by step get used to this drastic change of culture, living, eating and sharing a lot of time with the local people. The encounter with the Kwegu tribe for two days is unforgettable and will be part of our memories for ever. We arrived to a very remote village (there were no paths to get it) and met the people, speak with them, play with the children, fish with the men and sleep in the willage and participate in some of their rituals. Amazing, no words to describe it!!! If you look for an adventure in a respectful and safe way this is the best option. You won’t forget and your memory and your camera will come back full of images that you can not find in another place. I highly recommend it for families because it opens your mind to a different reality and facilitates your integration with local families too.
Dear Ricardo L, Thank you very much for your kind and thoughtful review. We are truly delighted to hear that you and your family had such a meaningful and respectful experience in the Omo Valley. Providing safe, authentic, and immersive journeys while maintaining deep respect for local communities is at the heart of everything we do. Your unforgettable time with the Kwegu community, especially reaching such a remote village and sharing daily life with the people, is exactly the kind of genuine cultural connection we aim to create for our travelers. It was a pleasure organizing this journey for you, and we truly appreciate your trust and recommendation—especially for families seeking a deeper understanding of different cultures. We would be honored to welcome you again for another adventure in Ethiopia. With sincere gratitude, Bereket Tadesse General Manager | Omo Region Tours

Bereket has given me the most incredible experience visiting tribes in the Omo valley. I travel all over the world but this trip has been the best by far. Bereket was a wonderful source of information and is very passionate about his work. He made sure everything was perfect and followed our interests. Nothing was too much trouble. He is also great company. If you are looking for an incredible guide for the Omo valley i can recommend Bereket 100%. We have booked to return so we can experience the north with him.

Totally amazing. This was my favourite travel experience and i have travelled extensively in Africa and elsewhere. Bereket is a brilliant guide. He is knowledgable, knows everyone and is great fun. Together with the local guides, Bereket brought the amazing Omo tribes to life. The diversity in culture and also the landscapes they live in are unique to the world. Go on this trip with Bereket, it is truely wonderful.

You will always be welcome back to Ethiopia! With sincere gratitude, Bereket Tadesse General Manager | Omo Region Tours
When having travelled broadly, everytime is harder to get impressed, This time we were shaken from a vast experience, a reality that distances centuries in economic and cultural evolution. When we thought we had already seen enough, the next tribe was Incredible again, giving us new learnings. More to say, we asked Bereket specifically to stay away from the big tours and touristic villages, which was achieved in 90% of the cases, and that’s a super achievement. All under a super personalized, professional and familiar relation with Bereket (and Itu driving us), always finds the solution you need. Great guys to be surrounded by! Thank you for this súper experience!!
Dear Julian, Thank you so much for your powerful and heartfelt review. It truly means a lot to us. Traveling with guests who have already explored the world is always special—and knowing that Ethiopia and the Omo Valley still managed to shake you with new perspectives, culture, and authenticity is the greatest compliment we could receive. We are especially happy that we could deliver exactly what you requested: staying away from big groups and touristic villages, and instead bringing you closer to the raw, untouched, and living traditions of the tribes. Achieving this 90% of the time—deep in remote territories—is something we are very proud of, and your appreciation makes the effort even more meaningful. It was a pleasure sharing these moments with you, both on the cultural side and on the personal level. On behalf of Itu and myself, thank you for the trust, the energy, and the curiosity you brought to every encounter. Guests like you make our work a joy. We hope to welcome you back again for more adventures in Ethiopia’s hidden corners. Warmest regards, Bereket General Manager | Omo Region Tours
