6-Day Kilimanjaro Climbing Via Machame Route
Description
Nicknamed the "Whiskey" route because the route is popularized as somewhat difficult and more expensive than Marangu route. On an overall comparison of the routes to scale Kilimanjaro, this is one of the best routes to take, both in terms of acclimatization and cost. The Machame route is considered a difficult route, and is better suited for more adventurous trekkers and those with some hiking or backpacking experience. The Machame route is scenically beautiful and varied. However, due to its popularity there are increased numbers of trekkers, it loses some of its splendour. The Machame route approaches the summit from the southwest and descends using the Mweka route, rewarding climbers with views of the expansive Shira Plateau, an optional scramble up Lava Tower, a climb up the Great Barranco wall, and a traverse underneath Kilimanjaro’s southern ice field.

Spirit of Kilimanjaro was great! Everyone from our leaders Izadini & Salim, the porters, cook and our waiter! The food was amazing and the whole trip was well thought out. We went on the 6 day Machame tour with Spirit of Kilimanjaro, and can’t speak highly enough of the experience. Sanke and Paul were excellent guides, who were extremely helpful, knowledgeable and fun to spend time with every day. They were very patient and kind throughout the hikes, especially on Summit day which was particularly difficult on both the body and the mind. Special gratitude to our cook and waiter, who were the first people we saw every morning, provided excellent food, and always made us smile. The porters do an amazing job, the entire experience was seamless and would highly recommend to anyone interested in hiking Kilimanjaro to go with Spirit! Thanks to William for checking in after the tour to make sure everything went well, appreciate everything!!
We absolutely loved our experience with Spirit. Overall, I would highly recommend them when trekking Kili. They were very accommodating and responsive during the planning process. The guides and crew were fantastic from beginning to end. The food was great, the gear and tents were in good condition and the guides created an unforgettable experience for us.
I just completed the ascent in 6 days, and I can say that this experience changed something in me. We go through all seasons: scorching sun, freezing fog, freezing nights... and each step is a lesson in self-transgression. A huge thank you to Rama, our exceptional guide. He knew my rhythm by heart after only a few days, placed the breaks at the perfect time, and motivated me when I thought about giving up. During the final ascent, at more than 5000 m, I was exhausted, frozen, at the limit of my strength... but thanks to his words, calm and professionalism, I reached the summit at sunrise. A magical moment, above the clouds, that I will never forget. Thanks also to Pemba Nicola, the cook, for his incredible meals every day, prepared in sometimes extreme conditions. What a joy to have a hot dish waiting for you after a day of effort! And great respect to Godi and Saidi, the porters, for their impressive work, kindness and good humor. Without them, this adventure would not have been possible. This trek reminded me of the importance of simplicity, healthy eating, living in the present moment, and above all helping each other. Here, nothing is superficial, everything is true. If you hesitate again, go ahead. With Rama and her team, you will be in the best possible hands, and you will have an experience that will remain engraved for life.
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro was one of the best experiences of my life. Our guide, Sanke, was incredibly kind, patient, and knowledgeable. He led us step by step and made the entire journey safe, smooth, and enjoyable. I truly appreciated his support and positive energy throughout the trek.

The most unforgettable experience! We hiked for 6 days accompanied by a wonderful team who cared for all our needs and even more. Our guides, Izadini and Paul, have led us everyday with calmness, confidence and wisdom and have always made sure our wellness was first priority. Izadini kept repeating that hiking Kilimanjaro is “a piece of cake”, it is for sure demanding for body and mind but thanks to the team we enjoyed every second of it.
