Woodoo, leeches, waterfalls and local curry

Quite an experience. We biked through the village roads toward the tea plantation farm, where we were served fresh coconut. A super friendly local family living the agricultural live of their ancestors. And guess what, a woodoo doctor was visiting with all his oils and techniques he learned from his old predecessor. From there we hiked through a leech wood, dressed in knee high socks to prevent them from reaching our skin. Adventurous, but the highlight of the hike was when we came to this oasis of cold river flushing through several small waterfalls. It was time for a bath. A very welcome bath before we headed back for the most delicious curry meal, prepared in a kitchen from at least two centuries ago. Thank you Chameera Bike for job well done!

Excellent day out

My husband and I have just done the 35km bike ride. The guides were friendly and helpful. After completing half of the bike ride we stopped at a Sri Lankan families house who were very friendly and welcoming. From their house we did a walk through the rainforest where we ended up at rivers and waterfalls. We stayed and swam there for about 30-45 mins. Following our walk back to the house the lovely family made us lunch, then we headed back on our final 18km back to Chameera cycle. A fabulous true insight into traditional Sri Lanka and a great way to see the place. Was a wonderful day.

Hard ride but worth it!

We did the 35km bike tour expecting a leisurely ride through the countryside however we were mistaken! The bike ride is TOUGH, with many stretches of the ride on bumpy broken road and some extreme inclines and descents. Our guides were good and made for an enjoyable day but I wouldn’t recommend doing this tour if you’re not a moderately proficient cyclist with a decent fitness level. The bikes were also not the best quality - gave us a sore tushy after all the bumpy rides but otherwise it was an excellent tour.

Great fun, but not easy!

This is a good fun day out , but the 35km trip is not easy. I went with my wife and 17 year old daughter . There are a couple of steep ascents on rough ground which are difficult if you have little or no mountain bike experience. The bikes are old and heavy the gears are tricky to manipulate quickly . There are also a couple if road sections , which could be scary if you are not used to riding in traffic . However the guides were great , endlessly patient and happy . The food provided in the local house was excellent and the jungle walk wearing ‘leech socks’ was a real experience. This is a great fun day out for people with some mountain bike experience, not just casual Holiday cyclists.
