At Sumatra Orangutan Trekking, we organize unique and unforgettable jungle trekking eco tours that help preserve the Gunung Leuser National Park and its endangered orangutans. But we offer more than just traditional trekking experiences. Our English-speaking guides are certified by the Indonesia Tourist Guides Association (ITGA-HPI Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesia), and they enjoy sharing their knowledge with you while they help keep the Gunung Leuser National Park clean and safe for both humans and animals! Our day tours and activities make a difference in the local community. When you purchase one of our trekking tours, 10% of the proceeds go to children in Bukit Lawang who can’t afford to go to school and single mothers who struggle financially. This money helps the children attend school and eventually find jobs that will allow them to support themselves and their families.

An incredible 3-day jungle trek from start to finish. We were fortunate to see orangutans every day, along with plenty of other wildlife. We were a group of six, and the atmosphere throughout the trek was fantastic. A big thank you to our guides, Ibnu, Eza, Brema and Ade, for their kindness, expertise and enthusiasm throughout the trek. Special thanks as well to Eduan, whose delicious meals exceeded all expectations. Everything was very well organized, and the entire team made this an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this trek to anyone visiting Sumatra.

Definitely the highlight of my Southeast Asia trip! The guides were some of the best people I met throughout my travels—so welcoming, accommodating, and always happy to help. From picking up my laundry to driving us wherever we needed to go, nothing was ever too much trouble. The food was incredible, and everything was so well organized from start to finish. The hike is a lot of up and down along steep, rugged intense incline and decline. It is hot and hard going. Having said that the hike was soooooo much fun. The guides are great and respectful of the wildlife (which is not the case with all guides from other companies). I felt safe and well looked after all the time. The food was amazing (Im a vegan and I was provided with delicious food abd they even went out of their way to make vegan snacks for me). I would highly recommend and if I come back here I would go with them again. The whole company is great and helped me with further travel plans. They are always happy to help and can help with accommodation in the local area with a range of prices. I changed the date of my tour due to having a hurting toe and it was not a problem to change the date and they checked in with me befire the tour
Me and my friend booked the 3 day tour and it was the most amazing experience we have ever done! We arranged direct pick up from the airport and from the moment we got there they were waiting and it was such a smooth journey! The accommodation before the trek was clean and so organised. Our tour guides Rahmat and Sandy were honestly the best super friendly and always made sure we had the best time. The food on the whole trip was so tasty and amazing with lots of variety and fresh fruit special shoutout to Jeri the cook! The jungle camps were so organised and well kept we could not fault it at all! And yes we seen so many orangutans with many other monkeys and animals. If you book with this company I guarantee you have the best time and such a smooth journey.

The trek was truly an unforgettable experience and i would definitely recommend this operator to book it with! They organize everything for you making it super easy and uncomplicated. A magnificent expedition! I was lucky enough to see many orangutans and other monkeys. The days flew by with the very friendly guides; they were truly there for us. The accommodation and food were all excellent. I highly recommend it!

I had a fantastic experience trekking in Bukit lawang. A beautiful town, with amazing wildlife and even better people. Our guides Brema and Robert were knowledgeable, hilarious, and made the experience super memorable. Thank you guys. Also, the food on the trek was incredible, big thanks to the cooking team! We had an amazing time with the Sumatra Orangutan Trekking. They took such good care of us all throughout our stay - our driver Ogie picked us up from the airport in Medan and drove us safely to Bukit Lawang. He also got us some delicious local snacks for the drive. We started our three day jungle trek tour the following day with our guides, Nasir and Memet. They were the best - they gave clear instructions for the trek to make sure we were prepared and really made sure we saw as many Orangutans as possible. We also saw different types of wildlife - snakes, monkeys, gibbons, birds, etc. They were very knowledgeable and you could see they loved the jungle and treated the animals with respect. They also made sure we were as comfortable as possible all throughout the trek. It was my birthday but we didn't really tell them until the day itself and they even gave me a small birthday surprise. The food was also really great throughout the tour - we had a wonderful cook, Indra, who made sure we could enjoy delicious Sumatran food for dinner. The team also took care of us after we finished our jungle trek, making sure we made it back to Medan safely and even including a short tour in Medan and a nice relaxing massage! All in all, we would highly recommend this company, and if possible, try to get Nasir and Memet as your guides! We really enjoyed our time with them. One thing to note - this is a jungle trek so accommodations are basic, but safe. Bring lots of mosquito repellent and be aware that some parts of the trail can be quite steep and difficult. The treks in themselves were not that long, since there were plenty of breaks in between, but some parts can be technical and require care when going down.

I had the most wonderful experience trekking with this group. Our guides Memet and Nasir catered the whole experience to the group making it one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. The type of trekking was very varied from climbing to river rafting giving us the full jungle experience! Not to mention our excellent chef Indra who ensured we never went hungry with the most beautiful local Cusine. I’d give 10 stars if possible, would recommend!
