1 Day Private Tour Koh Ker Cycling

Siem Reap1 hour

Description

Cycling at Koh Ker is unique because it combines a ride on a sealed road through authentic Cambodian countryside with the adventure of unpaved paths into the jungle temple complex. This path leads to a less-crowded, mysterious site featuring the only climbable pyramid temple in Cambodia, Prasat Thom, which offers panoramic jungle views. The experience is enhanced by the contrast between the modern, smooth start and the rustic, adventurous final approach to the ancient, jungle-engulfed ruins. Combination of sealed and unpaved roads: The ride starts on a sealed road through the rural province, providing a smooth journey through villages, and transitions to more rugged, unpaved paths as you enter the jungle temple area. Off-the-beaten-path experience: Unlike more popular sites, Koh Ker is less visited, offering a quiet and mysterious atmosphere.

The most south sanctuary of this group is the Prasat Pram on the west side of the road. A small (300 metres (328 yd) long path leads to the monument. It has five towers or prasats (pram = five). Three brick towers stand in a row on the same platform. They face east. The central one is a bit taller than the others. In each of these prasats, once stood a lingam. These and the beautifully carved lintels were looted. Two prasats (faced west) are standing in front of the platform. One is built of brick and has diamond‑shaped holes in the upper part. This fact indicates that this tower once served as a fire sanctuary (fire cults were very important during the era of the Khmer kings).

60 min

Prasat Neang Khmao, it is a large square temple constructed of laterite atop a sandstone base that is surrounded by a laterite wall. It features several false levels reducing in size to the top that have accent pieces and at each corner a “mini prasat” decorative piece. The sandstone basement still preserves traces of beautiful decorative carvings. It is one of the best-preserved temples to be found.

35 min

Prasat Banteay Pichean is a rarely visited ancient temple located within the Koh Ker temple complex in the Preah Vihear Province of Cambodia. It dates to the 10th century, during the reign of King Jayavarman IV.

45 min

Prasat Chrap is a 10th-century Khmer temple complex in Koh Ker, Cambodia, characterized by three large, partially ruined laterite towers standing in a row within a laterite enclosure wall. It also features two smaller brick structures, possibly libraries or earlier shrines, located opposite the main towers.

45 min

Prasat Linga is a temple housing a massive linga, a symbolic pillar representing the Hindu god Shiva. These temples, often found at sites like Koh Ker, feature a large, monolithic stone linga (often 2 meters high) on a yoni pedestal (the female symbol). Many of these temples, likely unfinished or missing perishable roofs, were designed so that rainwater could flow over the linga, pooling in a ceremonial tank below.
